- - - - 4.. So comedy really spans A334 in its entirety. And it’s very interesting to speculate from the vantage point of the end of the module how comedy changes through time. I mean just to give one very brief example, 70 odd years separates As You Like It from The Country Wife. Both are concerned with those perennial themes of comic drama –love and marriage.
        
        But how do those intervening 70 years change the treatment of those two comic themes? I think fairly radically. And what about the happy ending that is so central to the comic genre? In what different ways to Shakespeare and Wycherley treat them?

        good EMA response should bring together your close reading skills and combine them with really good critical interrogation of sources. So you need to be able to show how you’ve come to an argument independently of module teaching material and other critics, and demonstrate that by interrogating your chosen texts very closely. It’s a marriage I think of close reading skills and independent research
