food web :red_flag: :+1:
Where do Organisms get their energy from?
Sun is the main source of energy
Animals that eat plants or other animals get their energy from the Sun indirectly
Only plants trap the energy from Sun directly
Who are Producers and Consumers
Producers make their own food
Most plants are producers
Consumers cannot make their own food, they eat other living things
Consumers feed on on other consumers or producers
Herbivores only eat plants
carnivores eat animals
omnivores eat both
Who are Prey and predators
prey get hunted and eaten by other animals
herbivores are prey
predator hunts and eats
Carnivores and omnivores are predators, can be prey to other animals
What is a food chain
Food chain shows a food relationship between organisms(prey-predator relationship)
Food chain always starts with a producer
Plants convert light energy to chemical potential energy(CPE)
The CPE will be passed on to consumers(herbivores, omnivores), eventually passed down to omnivores or carnivores
Food chain is also energy chains because they show the transfer of energy
What is a Food Web
Organisms can belong to more than 1 food chain
predators may also be food for other organisms
Organisms can be eaten by more than 1 consumers
Consumers belong to more than 1 food chain
multiple food chains form a food web
Start from a producer; All energy comes from Sun
Food chains exist in a community can be linked to form a food web
How does the predator-prey Relationship Affect an Organism's population size
Prey control the number of predators in a community because they are food for prey
Predators control the number of prey in a community by killing them
populations size stay balanced in a community
removing or adding a new population upsets the balance in a community
