Psychopharm Terms
The half-life of a drug is the time it takes for the amount of a drug's active substance in your body to reduce by half. This depends on how the body processes and gets rid of the drug. It can vary from a few hours to a few days, or sometimes weeks.
Tolerance - A condition that occurs when the body gets used to a medicine so that either more medicine is needed or different medicine is needed./ Cross Tolerance is where the tolerance from another similar drug also increases your tolerance for similar medications.

Side Effects: Cause dizziness [Postural Orthostatic Hypotension] (electrician gets dizzy), Cause anticholinergic effects (broken cola bottle), can be lethal (big tricycle bad).

MAOIs (Maui)
Uses: Treat Depression (Crying waitress)
Side Effects: Hypertension crisis (inflating beach ball), avoid food containing Tyramine (Charcuterie board), Serotonin Syndrome (Smiley Face)
Names: Isocaboxazid (Ice cubes in glass), Phenelzine (Fennel on the table), Tranylcypromine (Waitress in Training)
SSRIs (Sushi Rice)
Uses: Treats Depression (Crying women), Treats Anxiety (Anxious Man)
Names: Citalopram/ Escitalopram (CITI Card), Sertraline (Certificate), Paroxetine (Parrot Fish), Fluoxetine (Fluor bag)
Side Effects: Sexual Dysfunction (rejected kiss), weight gain (weigh scale), Serotonin Syndrome (Smiley face on take out bag), avoid MAOIs (Ticket to Maui), Avoid St. John's Wort (Saint Hog T-Shirt), Avoid Grapefruit (Sold-out Grapefruit sign)
SNRI's (Sunrise)
Uses: Treats Depression (Crying Women), Treats anxiety (Anxious man), Treats chronic pain (hurt arm)
Side Effects: Serotonin Syndrome (Smiley Face), Avoid St. John's Wort (Saints Hog T-Shirt), Avoid MAOI's (Ripped Maui ticket), Sexual dysfunction (rejected kiss).

Side Effects: Extrapyramidal Syndrome/ EPS/ Tardive Dyskanisia (Rattling EPS Truck), Weight Gain/ Metabolic Syndrome (Heavy Package), Sedation (sleeping in the closet), Anticholinergic effects (Empty Cola Bottle), Neuoleptic Malignant Syndrome/ NMS (Lead pipes= muscle rigidity). Clonzapine causes Agranulocytosis (spilled granola in the closet). Ziprasidone causes QT prolongation (twisted streamer coming out of zipper).

Barbituates (Barber)
Uses: Treats Seizures (anti shake shocks), Treat Insomnia/cause sedation (sleeping customer), Treat anxiety
Side Effects: respiratory depression (broken fan), dependance/Tolerance (loyalty card)
Names: Barbital ending (Barber)
NDRI- Bupropion/ Wellbutrin/ Aplenzin (Bulletproof vest)
Uses: Treats Depression (Crying man/ atypical), Smoking cessation (man throwing cigarette)
Side Effects: can cause seizures (Jackhammer), if taken with alcohol increased risk
Lithium (Lithium battery from Mic)
Uses: Treats Bi-polar (theatre masks)- narrow therapeutic range toxicity after 1.5 (sign with 1.5 hrs)
Side effects: Toxicity caused by fluid loss (empty water bottle), hyponatremia/low sodium (empty salt shaker),decreased renal function (falling jelly beans), NSAIDs (Sled), Thiazide Diuretics (Thigh High Boots). Early signs of distress- GI symptoms (Girl puking), late signs of distress - Neurological changes (sparking wires). Its a teratogenic - not to be given during pregnancy (Tarantual)
Carbomazepine (Car Magazine)
Uses: Treats seizures (anti shake shocks), Treats Trigeninal Neuraliga (Tri-gem) and Bipolar disorder (theatre masks)- manic phase, can treat alcohol withdrawal effects
Side effects: Agranulocytosis (Empty granola bags, Steve Johnson syndrome/ SJS (Rash like scrapes)
Lamotrigine (Limo)
Uses: Treats seizures (anti shake shocks) and Bipolar (Theater masks)- depressed phase
Side effects: SJS (Rash) and sedation (sleeping driver)
Valproate/ Valproic Acid/ Depakote (Valet)
Uses: Treats seizures (anti shake shocks) and Bipolar (theater masks)
Side effects: Hepatotoxicty (Liver shaped lever) and its a Teratogenic (Tarantula)
Trazadone/ Atypical antidepressant (Traffic cone)
Uses: Treat depression and insomnia/ cause sedation (crying women, yawning man)
Side effects: Orthostatic Hypertension (Dizziness), Priapism (large Bratwurst)
Buspirone (Bus Stop)
Uses: Treat anxiety/GAD (Anxious looking man), takes 2 + weeks to take effect (2 week delay sign), partial agonist of serotonin (half smiley face sticker on pole)
Naltrexone (No Truck Zone)
Uses: Treat Opioid Dependance (blocked off poppyseed muffins w/ ripped loyalty card) and Alcohol Dependance (Blocked off Bar, w/ ripped loyalty card)- works slowly and is long lasting unlike Naloxone.
