Consequences of Climate Change
Flooding
Social
People will have to leave homes due to water damage.
Death of loved ones.
Environmental
Soil and bank erosion, destruction of animals habitats.
Siltation and landslides would increase and cause major damage.
Economic
Cities and centres of trade and economy could be affected by flooding and may have to shut down. This will mean an increased instability of the economy.
Sea level Rise
Social
Many people's homes could be affected and even destroyed, due to an increase amount of erosion caused by the rising sea. This affects millions of people around the world and all those that live close to sea level.
People that live in vulnerable areas could quite possibly have to move house or different countries, as their house comes under threat.
There would an increased suffering due to flooding and storm damage. As a result, a lot of people's lives would be at risk.
Jobs can be lost, due to industries closing down, and therefore new skills could have to be learnt.
Economic
Many important centres of the economy could be affected by flooding and storm damage. This could damage the economy of the whole world, causing instability.
Valuable agricultural land could be lost or polluted thanks to the sea. Harbours and ports can be damaged which would mean a decrease in fishing and trade.
Environmental
Drought
Social
Drought could lead to famine in certain areas of the world (Africa for example), due to there being a lack of infrastructure to deal with this.
Sustenance farmers would have a hard time surviving a drought, as there would not have enough food to last them throughout the drought. This could lead to mass starvation and death.
Economic
Drought can cause the economy to decrease, and become unstable. This is because there is an unreliable source of food.
Environmental
Drought can cause vegetation to dry, with a lack of water and nutrients, which then leads to a lack of growth and eventually death of the vegetation.
Animals could die due to the water holes they rely on drying up. This would severely affect the food chain in that area, as if the population of a species lower down the food chain, then the predators and consumers above them will have a lack of food. As a result, the animal population of that area could decrease.
