Major functions of the Reproductive system (male and female)

they produce, maintain and transport sperm and semen
They discharge sperm into the female reproductive tract.
They produce and secrete male sex hormones
Female
Production of gametes (eggs).
Production of gametes (eggs).
Fertilization.
Hormones of the reproductive system (male and female)
Male: HPG Axis --> involved --> gonatropin - releasing hormone : from hypothalamus reaches anterior
Female: GnRH stimulates FSH and LH secretion, then stimulates follicles to grow, mature, and secrete hormones. Negative feedback inhibits gonatrophin release. LH surge triggers ovulation and formation of the corpus release. LH surge triggers ovulation and formation of the corpus luteum. Negative feedback inhibits LH and FSH release.
Events of the female hormonal cycles
The ovarian cycle
Monthly series of events associated with maturation of egg
Follicular Phase
period of vesticular follicle growth
Luteal Phase
period of corpus leuteum activity
Ovulation
between follicular and luteal phase
The uterine cycle
cyclic series of changes in endometrium that occur in response to five ovarian hormone levels
Days 1-5 : Menstrual Phase , Days 6-14: proliferative phase, Days 15-28: secretory phase
