pathetic fallacy used - dickens uses a plethora of imagery and descriptions in the opening stave to convey the cold and gloomy atmosphere of the setting.describes fog " pouring in at every chink and keyhole". presents the hostile atmosphere as intrusive and uncontrollable, allowing it to dominate the tone of the stave.
However in the final stave, dickens writes"golden sunlight". the use of pathetic fallacy alters the tone of the stave, highlights scrooges transformation
repetition of "golden" from scrooges relationship with belle to show how his values have changed - symbol/ motif of light.
