Radical Feminism

-
Radical response to patriarchy (How do radical feminists plan to combat the patriarchy and liberate women?)
The abolition of the nuclear family and its replacement by communal forms of child-rearing and living in general. This will naturally remove the male domination of the family.
- Millett was able to combine this vision with her support for the ideals of socialism
Sexual liberation is critical for many radicals, notably Greer. By escaping from the limitations of traditional male-female relationships, women can free themselves from male domination and in Greer's terms, cease to hate themselves
The elimination of biological roles. Firestone celebrates the potential of modern bio-technology to free women from their biological enslavement.
Cultural Feminism
Cultural feminists accept that there are natural gender differences between men and women
- Some modern cultural feminists have also suggested that female characteristics are superior to those that are common within men and we should embrace them
This form of feminism explores the essence of women and finds that it is more caring and nurturing than the essence of men, which tends to be aggressive and competitive.
- It therefore follows that a world dominated by the female essence would be more peaceful and would protect the environment more effectively (link to Gilman and Herland?)
-Eco Feminists have adopted this perspective
Cultural feminists accept that women are more likely to take up domestic roles but value them highly or in some cases, value them more highly than the traditional roles of men
