chapter 2: contact forces - Coggle Diagram
chapter 2: contact forces
Normal force:
one component of the force that a surface exerts on an object with which it is in contact
perpendicular to surface
Force of Friction:
component of surface force
parallel to contact surface
acts between two objects opposing motion
Static Friction
force that prevents objects from moving
allows objects to maintain their stationary status.
magnitude can have any value from zero up to maximum value
Kinetic Friction
magnitude does not depend on contact area
friction created while an object is in motion on a contact surface
Tension force
an
ideal
cord pulls in direction of core with forces of equal magnitude on objects attached to its ends
ideal cord has zero mass and zero weight
Ideal pulleys
exerts no forces on cord
it is not pulling in either direction along the cord
tension of an ideal cord is the same on both sides of pulley
