there was a huge lack of food and that is one of the ways they had died out, they ended up fighting for land and eating each other as that was the only way they could really survive.

the first people of easter island were farmers and they could have grown crops but the ground then was infertile.

1798 Thomas Malthus argued that population growth will constantly increase at a faster rate than food supply, this would eventually lead to famine and starvation.
Boserup
argued that when population growth begins to approach the limits of food production, it would create an incentive for people to invent new technology and better farming techniques.
