Computer Adaptive Assessments are assessments which help to level a student through a nationally normed test given through the computer. Example: STAR RENAISSANCE MATH. In this example, a 5th Grade student might log in and demonstrate gaps in knowledge with basic 5th grade math skills, so the computer begins to offer 4th grade questions and then 3rd grade, etc. until an appropriate level is determined. A different 5th grade student might prove proficiency in 5-8th grade math, so the computer assigns Algebra and if that is where the student demonstrates gaps in knowledge, their "level" has been determined to be in that course.
