Buddhism in Choson
During the Chosôn dynasty Buddhism was not only suppressed by those in political power but also largely ignored by intellectuals. In terms of social stratification, monks were ranked in the same class as the servants and were not allowed to enter the capital city.

A long time ago a Buddha became King, he entrusted the state to his younger brother and left to learn the Way, he met Kudam Brahmana so took of his clothes and wore Gautama's clothes (rags). He went into the deep mountain and ate fruit and water. While spending his days meditating he wandered the state begging, no one knew who he was so they called him Little Kudam.
