c6- recycling materials

extracting raw materials

requires energy

can take up large amounts of energy

which comes from burning fossil fuels

fossil fuels

running out

its important to conserve them

burning them contributes to acid rain and climate change

only uses a small fraction of energy needed to extract and refine the material from scratch

energy doesnt come cheap, it saves money to

recycling

as there is a finite amount of many raw materials eg, metals on earth - recycling conserves these resources

recycling metals cut down on amount of rubbish that gets sent to landfill, landfill takes up space and pollutes surroundings

isnt an energy- free process

you need energy to reprocess materials into new forms

items will need sorting to separate out different materials

eg. glass will be needed to sort out into colours and plastics need to serparate to

weighing up wether recycling a material is better then just disposing it, requires you to compare how much energy is used for both processes

you want to go with the option of the lowest energy cost, think about consequences of adding materials to landfill, material youre reclying comes fromnon- renewable or renewable sources

you can only recycle materials a finite no. of time, recycled material has lower quality than the original one. has to be used differently, ( paper can only be recycled a few times before useless as made from toilet paper not high quality paper )
