Violent Conflict
Terrorist attacks, civil war, interstate wars, insurgencies, genocide
Most obvious form of conflict, direct violence. It can be measured in the number of casualties, and the amount of damage done to infrastructure

EXAMPLE: UKRAINE
Due to political instability, there has been frequent instances of violence in Ukraine. There has been tensions between the national leadership and its people in regard to whether or not Ukraine should strengthen ties with NATO or Russia. In 2014, civilians responded to president Yanukoych's pro-russia stance with violent protests throughout Kiev. Security forces clashed with protestors and this resulted in the deaths of 100 protesters.

Conflict can become violent when parties have no other means of resolving disputes, or because the conflict is progressively becoming worse.
