Mind gut interaction disorder´s: Biliary pain
Causes
This disease happens when the gallbladder contracts and causes a gallstone to temporarily block a duck that drains the gallbladder.
Gallstones are hard masses which are composed of cholesterol and biliburin that form in the gallbladder.
These can be small and several, or large and few. They form in response to chemical imbalances in bile, or also due to infrequent/incomplete emptying of the gallbladder.
Pain and discomfort caused by increasing the pressure in the gallbladder are associated with biliary colic.
Signs and symptoms
There can be pain in the centre of the abdomen or under the ribs on the right hand side, from there it could spread to the shoulder blade or to the side
The pain might come after a meal and it might feel like a constant dull ache.
Pain is constant, and cannot be retrieved by going to the bathroom or being sick.
Pain doesn't happen too often, there can be weeks or months between each episode of pain.
Some pacients experience fever, chills, nausea, vomit, jaundice, dark urine, lighter stools, fast heartbeat, blood pressure drop.
Treatment
This disorder is usually treated with a surgery whose objective is to remove the gallbladder
Laparoscopic or keyhole surgery is the most common way to perform a cholecystectomy (name of the treatment). This requires small incisions in the abdomen
Some other cases require open surgery, which consists of one larger incision in the abdomen.
In case a patient cannot have a surgery, a doctor can do a different treatment to dissolve or break down gallstones. After that, gallstones might come back after a few years.
