Lesson about towers
-
All three done at home
-
Once task has students ask family members about how they think our tower building in class goes. All of this information is recorded and put into a document.
The third task and thing you will see on this document is another family interview, but this time students are finding out about the tallest towers/structures that family members have seen. Since these are both interviews and most likely the same family members it all goes together on the same document.
The fourth task and last thing on this document has students going out to find the tallest tower or structure near them. This one also goes on the document because you can look at towers family members have seen verses what the student saw.
Done in class
-
In class we will be building several towers as a whole group (and possibly in small groups) to find out if there is a best way to build a tower. We also want to see if we can make one that is taller than we are.
after the towers have been built and we have decided on the best way to build and blocks to use, we will be comparing the towers we made to towers we can see in real life
Done at home
This is the second task that students will be doing, and I want to see if what we did in class was truly retained and if it can be used at home. Students are tasked to find items in their house they can use to make a tower and so seeing how tall they can make it and if it ends up being taller than they are.
