Pillars of food security
Availability: ability of the country or region to provide sufficient quantities of food to meet the needs of its population. Factors which determine availability include level of production, climate, land use, trad policies and stock levels
Accessibility: Refers to the ability of individuals to access food that is available to them. This includes economic and physical access as well as social and cultural.
Utilisation: Refers to the ability of individuals to use food in ways that promote health and well-being. This includes factors such as food preparation and hygiene as well as nutritional content and diversity and intra-household distribution.
Stability: Refers to the stability of the other three pillars. It is the ability of a food system to withstand adversity such as climate change or economic instability.
