ERGOGENIC AIDS - Coggle Diagram
ERGOGENIC AIDS
COOLING AIDS
PRE-EVENT:
- such as ice vests, cold towel wraps to reduce core body temp to sustain intensity and speed whilst reducing thermal strain & cardiovascular drift
- may reduce overheating, sweating, dehydration, cramp & dizziness
- mainly used by performers in hot climates
INJURY TREATMENT:
- ice packs & sprays can be used to treat injuries during or after even by reducing pain and swelling
- nerve endings numbed to reduce pain and arterioles vasoconstrictor to reduce blood flow and minimise swellling
- often used by games players especially in contact sports after knocks, sprains, and strains following price procedure
POST EVENT: - ice baths can be used to speed up recovery by reducing exercised induced muscle damage and decreasing DOMS
- during ice bath, blood vessels constrict removing waste and lactic acid from muscle tissue
- after ice bath vessels dialate, flushing the muscle tissue with nutrient rich oxygenated blood flow
- this heals and repairs damaged cells
- associated with football & rugby players, as well as endurance athletes e.g marathon runners
BENEFITS:
- Reduced core bosy temp decreased sweating, dehydration & early fatigue
- decreased injury pain and swelling
- increased speed of recovery and repair
- decreased DOMS
RISK: - Difficult to perceive exercise intensity ic burns and pain
- hides or complicates injuries
- cost pain and reduced efficiency in elderly
- dangerous for those with heart conditions ( if used in chest area)/ hypertensives
