They grow their food in their yard; there are many prominent examples throughout the story (Antonio's family growing crops and complaining that their land is not suited for the area)
Narciso's hidden garden was filled with fruits and food that people did not know about. There was a side of Narciso and food/crops/ plants
There were fruit trees, row of vegetables, carrots, notably juiciest carrot that Antonio tasted
Narciso's garden + Antonio's family farm uses moon phases as a way to grow plants ( a way that they believe helps the plants grow better) Another thing that we find out is that he likes to dance and play music for the plants
planted crops based on the moon phases and used different techniques to boost growing(singing, dancing, being drunk, etc.)
Antonio's family on the mom side came from farmers and their food came from harvesting from trees and plants for food. they were people of the land and held it in high regard
This is common throughout different families . There are examples in the book where people live like this

specific book examples
Every summer or break there is a harvest season so family members gather around to harvest. they work throughout the day in order to get the job done
During this season the Lunas harvest corn, red chile, and fruit
Ultima teaches Antonio to respect the earth and it's creatures during her lessons. Making sure that he learns all of their uses and to use anything that he takes to its fullest
-
Antonio realizes that Ultima is happiest when she is out on the llano, and her happiness helps him realize that he too finds happiness in nature
-
There is an idea of being proud of your identity and standing up for who you are; being a farmer, not a vaquero and vice versa. Being a farmer and being from the llano was something that they held in high regard
There is a sense of conflict and banter going on between being a farmer or a vaquero. Farmers are proud of who they are and would not change a single thing
The different relationships to the land and people can have impacts on religion through stories. Such as the golden carp who lives in the river.
