- - - - The Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (DDA) makes it unlawful to discriminate against a person, in many areas of public life, including employment, education, getting or using services, renting or buying a house or unit, and accessing public places, because of their disability.
        
        The DDA covers people who have temporary and permanent disabilities; physical, intellectual, sensory, neurological, learning and psychosocial disabilities, diseases or illnesses, physical disfigurement, medical conditions, and work-related injuries.
        
        The DDA protects people with disabilities who may be discriminated against because they are accompanied by an assistant, interpreter or reader; they are accompanied by a trained animal, such as a guide, hearing or assistance dog; or they use equipment or an aid, such as a wheelchair or a hearing aid.
- - - - Infants and toddlers, birth through age 2, with disabilities and their families receive early intervention services under IDEA Part C. Children and youth ages 3 through 21 receive special education and related services under IDEA Part B.
        
        IDEA authorizes
        
        Formula grants to states to support special education and related services and early intervention services.
        
        Discretionary grants to state educational agencies, institutions of higher education, and other nonprofit organizations to support research, demonstrations, technical assistance and dissemination, technology development, personnel preparation and development, and parent-training and -information centers.

        A disability person is considered as being one who, because of loss or irregularity, whether congenital or acquired, of bodily functions or structures, including psychological functions, has specific difficulties that are likely, in combination with environmental factors, to limit or hinder activity and participation under equal conditions with others.
        
        some fundamental principles
        
        Principle of individuality - The individuality of persons with disability shall be acknowledged and they should be approached differently, taking account of personal circumstances.
        
        Principle of citizenship - The persons with disability have the right of access to all goods and services available in society as well as the right and duty to play an active part in the running of society.
        
        Principle of non-discrimination - A person shall not be discriminated against either directly or indirectly, by act or omission, on the basis of his/her disability.
- - - - Designed to be a breakthrough toward guaranteeing rights for as many as 45 million people with disabilities living in Brazil. Signed the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities on 30 March 2007 and ratified the CRPD on 1 August 2008.
