SEATING ARRANGEMENTS
DESK ROWS
It is a traditional classroom seating arrangement of several desks facing the teacher the students' desks are not touching each other but are lined up in rows and columns.
-
The teacher is most of the time in front of the classroom so he/she needs to decide which students will be in the back of the class and in front of the class.
If the teacher is monitoring the class, desk drills are the perfect test-taking arrangement.
-
It has some disadvantages like some students are going to have to sit in the corners and back of the classroom where students usually participate and interact less.
Also, it is not good for group work or projects ant it takes important time to have some students get into group and move their desks.
SEMI-CIRCLES
This is a seating arrangement in that all desks touch each other facing the front of the class in a semi-circle shape.
It enables the teacher to easily see each student and the students in turn can see the teacher and the instructional aids.
It can be used for direct instruciton, child run or collaborative learning.
All students can see each other therefore they have a chance work together, discussions.
Teachers can have a hard time meeting with the students one-on-one because the seats are very close to each other.
Also, this arrangement takes up a lot of space so it does not allow making activitie outside the desk area.
PAIRS
In this arrangement, two students' desks are placed next to each other and spaced away from other pairs. Therefore teachers can walk around the classroom and monitor all the students.
Before using this arrangement, the teacher needs to decide which students can be paired together so that they can not misbehave or lower their academic success.
It is useful for adult-run and collaborative learning as pairs allow the students to work together and independently.
It is easy to see instructional aids because all the students are facing the teacher and the front of the classroom.
Also, it is easy for teachers to monitor all the students during tests or exams.
It is again bad for students who are sitting in the back and corners of the classroom. Furthermore, it does not allow for much class discussion because the students are not facing each other and it is hard to hear and see who is talking.
TABLE ROWS
Consists of long tables that are placed in rows that are perpendicular to the front and back of the classroom, and the students sit next to and across from each other.
It is a good arrangement for group work and large group projects so it is useful for collaborative learning.
It is a disadvantage that some students sit at the ends of the tables or in the back of the class because they can not see during direct instruction time. Also, the teacher can not see all the students too.
CLUSTERS

-
Before setting up this arrangement, the students need to be considered whether they will be able to work together.
The teacher would need to make sure that each group has different levels of students so they can help each other learn and grow.
