SUFFA
Companion mainly learned Quran, hadith, and tafsir.
Companions who are homeless and unmarried lived in the suffah.
It was established 622 years in the Masjid an-Nabavi.
Approximately, 300 companions were living in Suffah.
THE MAKTAB (KUTTAB)
It was established for children.
It takes place in mosques and private houses.
it arose during the Umayyad period in 661-750.
It became widespread in the early Abbasid era.
It is an elementary educational institution.
Education was provided by single teacher.
LITERARY SALONS
It was flourished in Baghdad in 10 th century.
There were oral, written, religious, and secular knowledge in the literary salons.
It was emerged in 9 th century in Iraq.
These salons were used for socializing, educating, performing literature, and creating and transmitting cultural identity.
The Masjid, Halqah, or Study Circle
It was offered in mosques.
The number of mosques increased under the caliphs. At Abbasid period there were 3000 mosques
It is the simplest type of early Muslim education.
Some mosques became center of learning for students such as Baghdad, Isfahan, Ghom, Damascus, and Cairo.
BOOKSHOP AND LIBRARIES
Bookshops, copyist were encouraged in important Islamic cities such as Damascus, Baghdad, and Cairo.
It was developed during Abbasid period.
In these bookshops and libraries it is possible to barrow books, studying, examining, and purchasing books.
There are values manuscripts in here. Manuscripts of Avicenna, Ghazali, and Farabi were used in these libraries.
MADRASA
and 14. centuries are considered to be golden age.
It was established against shiism and batiniyya movements.
In madrasa ijazah was granted by a particular scholars.
It is one of the Islamic education institution.

Palace Schools
Formal education was given in here.
Generally, wealthy families preferred these schools for taking formal education instead of madrasa education.
palace schools were established in 8 h century and it was used as educational institution untill 12 th centure.
Arabic, literature, religion, mathematics,and philosophy were given in these schools.
