How was forced collectivisation enforced?
Fear
Stalin identifying the Kulaks as a class enemy would frighten the middle and poor peasants into joining the Kolkhoz farms
whole villages and families were sometimes rounded up and deported
others sent off to gulag labour camps
head of household may be shot and rest of family put on a train to siberia
Propaganda
propaganda campaign made to show the benefits of collective farming
many peasants did end up denouncing their neighbours as Kulaks
many children were encouraged to reveal their neighbours or parents grievances
Peasant reactions
many disagreed and would revolt
they would burn barns and houses
Sometimes they would kill their own animals
many refused to tell people whether their friends, family or neighbours were Kulaks as they had done nice things in the past etc.
however others would reveal about their neighbours as acts of revenge for previous grievances
Terror
The Kulaks were separated into 3 groups with different punishments
counter-revolutionaries --> to be shot and killed or sent to forced labour camps
others were expelled from their farms and settled on poor land
active opponents - deported to Siberia
