Sexual and Reproductive Health
Two-Spirt and HIV/AIDS
shadow presence
constantly looming even if not being talked about
a truth from which to hide
professionalized identity
connections and building of networks
eclipsing of fourth world status
health sub-priority
mental health of gay and mental health of Natives
alcohol, self medication, coping
"city" disease, separation from Nativeness
belonging/reclamation
sense of community with other people that have same experiences
"sexual risk taking of both MSM and two-Spirits"
Are they really taking more risks? How many teen preganancies or STDs do heterosexual people have because they decided not to wear condoms? It's not like orgies and a ton of other taboo sexual things aren't being done by heterosexual people as well
Sure HIV in particular more common but I don't think I would argue it's because people are less risky it's just because sex is more typically anal...once again it's not like heterosexual people don't do that its just not the only option
Drug abuse? More common in marginalized populations as coping mechanism!
forgotten minorities
omission of sexual orientation and gender identity
does it being 2012 have anything to do with this?
has this improved? changed? I don't think I have ever been asked my sexual orientation at the OBGYN
sexual health beyond pregnancy and heterosexual relationships are important!!
disparities
HIV/STDs, victimization, mental health, suicide
homelessness, abuse
tobacco, alcohol, and drug use
less likely to get routine care, breast and cervical cancer
elderly LGBT - social isolation and lack of services
CHRONIC STRESS AND RELATIONSHIP TO DISEASE
lack of insurance coverage, lack of recognition of relationships and family units
health care facilities should be safe places and doctors trusted confidants
reproductive heath as a human right
how and when we have kids/build a family
insurance issues
abortion
resources for care, before, during, and middle
LGBTQ+ adoption
community basis
sexual health shouldn't just be about health, it should be about pleasure
what groups do we exclude: older adults, disabled community
shouldn't be having to put in so much effort to just be regarded as a person who can and does have sexual desires, relationships, etc.
forced sterilization
sex IS NOT just about reproduction
eliminates those who have fertility issues, those that can't get pregnant from the sex they're having
overemphasizing reproduction as the goal of sex for everyone eliminates the discussion of other important topics regarding sexual health
adolescents and health
being taught from beginning that our bodies will be looked at and regarded only for sexual nature, SHAME SHAME SHAME
fear factor: pregnancy and stis, BLAME BLAME BLAME
