No Knives Better Lives

Alcohol Reduction Unit

Violence reduction unit

Arguable the government have been successful due to the fall in knife related crime.

For Example between 2011 - 2016 no on under 20 died in an incident involving a knife in glasgow

Arguably the government still has more to do has as alcohol related crimes are still a problem.

For Example in recent years the government have found around 2/3 serious assaults are still committed under the influence

Arguably the government has had some success i tackling crime, this is seen due to the fall in violent crime.

For example murder rates in Glasgow have dropped around 60% in 10 years.

Causes of Crime

Biological

Social

Economic

Sex, Mental Disorders (Psychopaths) + Genetics

ACE's, Peer Pressure, Poverty + Drugs & Alcohol

Greed, Poverty + Drugs & Alcohol (= Stealing)

A cause of crime is Sex, being Males is the greatest single cause. This is because men have more testosterone, they may have the "warrior gene" too. This gene makes them more violent/aggressive. For Example 93% of killers in 2021 were men.

A second cause could be mental disorders like psychopathy. This condition causes more crime as it leads people to having no empathy/understanding of others and their brain patterns are different to general population. For Example Aaron Campbell was a 16 year old who raped and murdered a toddler in Bute, a psychiatrist said he showed no remorse.

A third reason is due to brain development. It is considered now that brains are not full developed until people are 25 years old. For Example Scots Government has added to the sentencing laws that because of this 25 and unders should not be sentenced to jail unless essential

Consequences of crime

Physical - Loss of freedom - E.g. ANdrew Wallace received life in Jail (28 years)

Social - Social Exclusion - E.g. Aaron Campbell in danger in Prison. He will have no

Economic - Unemployment - E.g. Natalie McGarry lost her job and income and is unlikely to be hired.
