DEIXIS
Concept
Example
A couple go to a town for honeymoon, and the woman said “This town is famous with its small antiques shop”
Analysis:
The hearer of this utterance or the man can directly interprets what the woman means by saying this, even the woman does not make any physical movement. The word this used by the woman is reference to the town where they are in.
Gestural Deixis
Gestural deixis uses cues such as physically pointing, making eye contact, and can only be interpreted by looking directly at the speaker's gestures.
Symbolic Deixis
Symbolic deixis is an expression that is not seen directly in a speaking situation, but instead uses symbols such as nodding your head, waving ''goodbye.''

Analysis:
The hearer can interpret what the speaker means by saying she. Therefore, the speaker must have direct gaze with physical movement. The listener needs to look at the speaker’s hand or eye movements to know what the deictation the speaker uses is pointing.

Analysis:
Without relevant deictic information, you don’t know who to meet, when and where to meet the sender of your message, or how long to carry your cane.
Spatial (place) Deixis
Concept
Spatial deixis is used for states in adverb form (here and there, this and that)
Example
“students who witness bullying in school have a greater tendency to feel anxiety when in there”
Analysis:
indicates place deixis because It shows an adverb of place or particular place, because the sentence refers to school.
Person Deixis

Today we have very special guests, Orville and Wilbur Wright! We are going to ask them about their revolutionary inventions. What do you call your invention?
Analysis:
Them and their above refer to Orville and Wilbur Wright.
Temporal (time) Deixis

Example
“At this time, there are many types of games.”
Analysis:
shows the conditions of time at a certain time. the sentences above refer to present tense tenses.
Discourse Deixis

“in conclusion, the addition of school days is not really necessary”
Analysis:
The words of “in conclusion” in the sentences above indicate discourse deixis because these words explain or connect the previous sentences or
utterances.
Social Deixis

“Some parents think playing some games are wasting time." Analysis:
The word “parents” refers to someone who is respected in the family scope.
