Advantages

You can share a connection to the internet if there is no access to a traditional network or no other secure access point to the internet

Disadvantages
If you want to share a connection you must spend yours or someone else's data allowance to be able to access the internet
If someone gains access to the network they can access all the files that are possibly being shared, they can burn up the connection to the internet and they can stop other people accessing the features of the network
I has a very limited range at only about 20 meters and even then that is a very weak connection, and it will not pass through walls very well and even if it does again it will be a very weak connection
If the person running the network has bad connection to the internet the network will not give a good connection to the internet
The connection is only meant to be temporary so long term this is not a very effective network to use

The connection is very quick to set up it might just be a quick plug in of a cable or a putting in the pass word to the network in the wifi tab
You can share the connection to basically anything it is and easy way to get a connection if there are no other secure networks around to use
Disadvantage
The connection can be unstable and can be prone to spontaneous shut downs or crashing if there are to many: networks in the area, your phone is running to many networks or too many people try and connect to the network. All of these can happen at the same time but the more there are the more likely the connection will crash
