Modal Auxiliary Verbs (Present)
They
add meanings like possibility and obligation to the main verb.
The basic structure for a positive sentence is:
affirmative: subject + auxiliary verb + main verb
negative: subject + auxiliary verb + not + main verb
? question: auxiliary verb + subject + main verb
Can is an auxiliary verb, a modal auxiliary verb. We use can to:
talk about possibility and ability
make requests

Could: Requests
We often use could in a question to ask somebody to do something.
ask for or give permission
Child Rights
Children around the world suffer appalling abuses.
Refugee children, often separated from theirfamilies, are vulnerable to exploitation, sexual abuse, ordomestic violence.
General Assembly on November 20, 1989, the Convention promises children around the
world the right to life, liberty, education, and health care.
