Solar eclipse

How it happens?

When it happens?

What do you see?

Why do some people never see it? / Where does it happen?

You must be in the path of totality to see a full solar eclipse

Whether you can view that eclipse depends on where you are in the world.

Types of eclipse: total, partial, hybrid, and annular

It lasts only a few minutes

The corona is the dimmest ray of the sun, but when you see a solar eclipse then the only thing you can see is the corona.

There are two to five solar eclipses each year, with a total eclipse taking place every 18 months or so.

Solar eclipse poem

A solar eclipse happens when a new moon moves between the earth and sun, blocking all of the suns rays from reaching the earth.

Exposing your eyes to the sun without proper eye protection during a solar eclipse can cause “eclipse blindness” or retinal burns, also known as solar retinopathy. This exposure to the light can cause damage or even destroy cells in the retina (the back of the eye) that transmit what you see to the brain.
