Organic Reactions
Addition Reaction
When an unsaturated hydrocarbon reacts with a substance to form a single compound is called Addition Reaction.
Hydrogenation
Addition of hydrogen to unsaturated hydrocarbons in presence of a catalyst to form saturated hydrocarbons is called hydriogenation.
Eg:
Halogenation
Halegenation is a chemical reaction in which a halogen is added to a hydrocarbon by replacing on of its hydrogens.
Eg:
-
Oxidation Reaction
A chemical reaction in which a compound gains oxygen or losses hygrogen to form a product is called a oxidation reaction
Eg:
Reduction Reaction
A chemical reaction in which a compound gains hydrogen or losses oxygen is called a reduction reaction.
Eg:
Substitution Reaction
A substituion reaction is defined as a reaction in which the functional group of one chemical compound is substituted by another group or it is a reaction which involves replacement of one atom of a molecule of a compound with another atom or molecule.
Nucleophillic
SN1
The SN1 reaction is a nucleophillic substitution reaction in where the rat - determining step is unimolecular.
Eg:
SN2
In this reaction, the elimination of the leaving group and the addition of nucleophile occur simultaneously. SN2 takes place where the central atom has easy access to the nucleophile.
Eg:
Electrophillic
An electrophilic substitution reaction is a chemical reaction in which an electrophile replaces the functional group attached to a compound.
Eg:
Elimination Reaction
Elimination reaction is an organic reaction in which substituents are removed from a molecule to form a new product.
