How can citizens of Florida be resilient in the face of hurricane damage?
THE PROBLEM
hurricanes create create Ptsd
Untreated PTSD can lead to other mental health problems like depression and anxiety, poor quality of life and increases in alcohol and substance use, untreated PTSD may also cause strains in friendships and family relationships, as well as difficulty maintaining employment.
People are being left without homes making them worry and many times end up really stressed
"Mr. Garcia, meanwhile, said he would like to rebuild his home in the same place. But even after collecting on insurance, he won’t have enough money to build a new home in Fort Myers Beach."
After a hurricane people don't have enough money to rebuild there destroyed home. this is a problem because residents are most likely to become stressed creating problems in society, like causing PTSD in the people which many times if not treated then later they become a problem to society, for example many times these people have difficulty in maintaining an emplyment causing the employer less likely to hire them for not being able to last in a job leaving these jobless people in poverty and not being able to sustain a living.
“The destructive power of hurricanes worldwide can wipe out thousands of lives and cause billions of dollars worth of infrastructure and private property losses annually"
A hurricane can cause a lot of damage and bring the economy down injust less than a week, causing the infrastructure to go down and if residents aren't able to get back on there feet many times this causes the development chain to be affected. This disturbance reduces progress, resulting in an economic gap and, as a result, low living standards.
SOLUTION
before a hurricane many people are unprepared if anything where to happen to there homes, cars and any other expensive damages the natural disasters cause. in order to prevent this people should start preparing and building stronger homes, homes that are much more stable and are planned not just on the material and what it can resist but also the location of the home. "Architects have come up with better resistant homes due to the location of the home and where it is at and what conditions the homes may face."
Mr.Garcia who's home was destroyed during hurricane Ian said "His father sometimes stays in one of the tents, where his bedroom used to be. A neighbor one street over allows them to plug an extension cord into their property to power their mini fridge and microwave.
after a natural disaster the community should gather and help each other.
it doesn't matter if there homes are gone, yes it will take them a while to be able to afford a new home but as long a there are people who are able to help them and support them during rough times these people will be strong enough to continue and not isolate themself from the world.
AGREE ON WHAT SOMEONE SAYS BUT WHY IT'S NOT A SOLUTION
After the currents hurricaes in Florida the cost for everything has increased, and this is so that the demands are met and the economy doesn't decrease.
the government is trying to keep Florida from falling but they aren't worrying about the peoples' problems
Manuel Obando is a contractor who specializes in restoration work, he had rented three homes at as much as $700 a night, where he felt he was being taken advantage of, becaue it was just too much for one night and all this was to be able to meet demands, not caring about what the people got to say.
LIMITATIONS TO SOLUTION
although improving future homes for future disasters would save future money, rebuilding new and stronger houses would cause more money which is why many people have been worried about because even if it were just a regular home it would still be more expensive then the the residents first homes
alhough making better homes could prevent save future money it still doens't make residets with destoryed homes any less worried, they still have problems and stressed and these better developed homes won't help them at all
Limitation to second solution
recieving help from community will make citizens feel better and supported but this doens't solve there problems, it decreases there stress but they still need to find a way to afford a home.
