Since 1933 Cuba has been led by a pro-American dictator Barista, USA owned most of the land and industries and bought Cuba's main crop (sugar).

Fidel Castro landed an army in Cuba and launched a rebelion against the military dictator Barista.
1 January 1959
Rebelion suceded Barista fled Cuba, Castro assumed power.
19 December 1960
Castro oppenly aligned Cuba with Soviet Union.
17 April 1961
Rebel group of Cuban exile supported by the USA invaded Cuba at the bay of pigs with the aim to over through Castro but failed and USA was publicly humiliated.
14 October 1962
American spy plane flew over Cuba and photographed missiles sites under construction.
16 October 1962
Kennedy was informed and considered possible diplomatic/military action.
21 October 1962
Kennedy imposed quarantine zone around Cuba and threatened to use nuclear weapons.
24 October 1962
Soviet ships travelling to Cuba reversed their course, they had earlier said they would not observe the blockade.
26 October 1962
Soviet Union proposed dismantling soviet bases in Cuba in exchange for a public pledge form USA not to invade Cuba.

Soviet Union announced removal of missiles from Cuba.
