Key Characteristics
- Working-class man: "they are about 28-30 years old, roughly dressed in blue denim work clothes". His register suggests that he is working class, characterised through his dialogue, we see that he is self-disparaging toward himself and others.
- Gentle and sensitive. Mitch is well-mannered and gentlemanly, Blanche immediately recognises that he seems superior to the others.
Mitch often mentions his unwell mother, he treats women with respect and sympathy, especially Blanche, when she tells him about Allan.
- Beta male Mitch is the antithesis (direct opposite) of Stanley. When he first meets Blanche he says: "How do you do?" instead of the strong, sexual and objectifying way that the rest of the men treat her with. Mitch is masculine in nature, and physically strong. He is sensitive, and this is his downfall. Stanley uses his sensitivity against him and dominates him as the Alpha.
