Evaluation Aprrehension
Theory which suggests that the audience is perceived as evaluating (assessing the value or worth of) performance. This causes anxiety - which causes arousal
Audience and evaluation apprehension can act as a distraction. Therefore attentional focus is important for the sportsperson and if this is disrupted then he/she is distracted from their task. In order to prevent this - practise with distractions and practise switching attentional focus when faced with potentially distracting circumstances
Strategies: anxiety management, mental rehearsal, selective attention, lowering the importance of a situation, training with audience present
