Treaty of Versailles
Territorial changes: Germany was forced to cede territory to Belgium, Czechoslovakia, and Poland. Alsace-Lorraine was returned to France, and Germany's overseas colonies were seized.
Military restrictions: Germany was limited to a 100,000-man army and forbidden from having an air force, submarines, or heavy artillery.
War guilt and reparations: Germany was forced to accept responsibility for causing the war and pay reparations to the Allied powers, which were later set at 132 billion gold marks.
League of Nations: The Treaty of Versailles established the League of Nations, which was intended to prevent future wars through international cooperation.
The Big 3
Woodrow Wilson's motives and aims at Versailles were primarily driven by his vision for a more peaceful and cooperative world order. He wanted to establish the League of Nations, which he believed would help prevent future wars by promoting disarmament and collective security. He also wanted to promote his idea of self-determination, which meant allowing nations to determine their own political futures.
David Lloyd George's motives and aims were focused on rebuilding and strengthening Britain's economy and empire. He was concerned about the financial cost of the war and the impact it would have on Britain's economy. He wanted to secure reparations from Germany to help pay for the war and to prevent Germany from becoming a major economic power in Europe again. He was also interested in expanding Britain's empire, particularly in the Middle East.
Georges Clemenceau's motives and aims were driven by his desire to punish Germany for its role in causing the war and to prevent Germany from ever being a threat to France again. He wanted Germany to be stripped of its military power and territory, and to pay significant reparations to France. He was also concerned about the security of France and wanted to ensure that Germany would not be able to launch another invasion.
