Causes of the Russian Revolution
Short term
A short term political cause was the lack of support of the population to the government, and the influence of the growing Bolshevik party, which gained support from the working class and people who disagreed with the government actions.
A short-term economic cause was the economic crisis suffered by the population led to food shortages, inflation, and widespread poverty, also the oppression/exploitation of the working class by the wealthy elites who controlled resources and industries.
Long term
Mistakes made by the Tsar
Russia's acts in the Russo-Japanese war. (Did not make peace even after many opportunities, ended up losing horribly and suffering many losses) Deteriorated their economic status and the monarchy's reputation with the general public
Entered World War I.
Economic Issues
Russia's forced rapid industrialization by Tsar Nicholas II and the minister of finance improved Russia's economy, but also did significant damage to it (artificial, rapid industrialization has many side effects)
A long term political cause that started the revolution is the failure of the weak government to address the population’s needs, and the growing popularity of socialist and communist ideas among the working class.

His acts contributed to increasing distrust in the government and civil unrest that fueled the eventual Russian revolution.

He made poor decisions that led to worsening relations with the government and increased hardship for civilians and soldiers alike. Nicholas refused to accept any reduction in the absolute power he held.
Lenin
Lenin was one of the leaders of the Russian Revolution. He was a believer in the communist ideal.
Rasputin
Interfiered with the royal family which caused distrust and dissatisfaction from the citizens because it showed that the royal family was weak

October Manifesto
A manifesto that was issued by Nicholas II in response to the uprising protests and revolution. It did not give any more power or benefits to the peasants or workers such as solving poverty and inequalities.
Bloody Sunday
A massacre involves hundreds of peace protesters being killed or injured by the soldiers protecting the White Palace. It caused strikes in many cities, peasant uprisings in the country, and mutinies in the armed forces.

Long-term causes
A rise in oil prices led to high rates of inflation led to people driven into poverty.
SAVAK: The violence towards protesters and censorship towards various different contents caused widespread anger
White Revolution - Reza Shah's plan to modernize and industrialize Iran inferiorated the Iranian citizens, as they believe it infringed their religion.
Significant individuals
Khomeini
Khomeini was a trusted spiritual religious, that many of the population believed in since 90% of the population was muslim.
Many saw Khomeini as the true opposition against the Shah.
Khomeini was a scholar, and spread his influence through teaching.
Reza Shah
Reza Shah was the Iranian monarch during 1925-1941.
He had a grand plan for modernization and westernization, bringing American ideas into the heavily religious Iran. This caused outrage in the Iranian population, as many of them saw Reza Shah as a leader that disrespected cultural traditions.

The Shah fled to France, giving a chance for Khomeni to take over
Short-term causes
Violence and disrespect towards the opposing leader (Khomeini, who was a religious leader) caused more and more Islams to stand up against the Shah's disrespecting behavior
Real and perceived Corruption of the Shah made the citizens oppose him, causing more Islams to stand up against him and end his reign
