How emotional lyrics/beats in music is associated with memory
Music
What is music?
Music is the art of producing sound using an array of different tones. It can include vocals, instruments and can be categorized into different genres such as rap, r&b, pop, jazz, house, trance, jungle and hundreds more. :
People listen to different music depending on their moods. More upbeat music when you are are happy, music with more depressing slower tempo would make you feel the opposite.
What are Lyrics?
Lyrics are words or sentences in a song being sung (rapped/harmonized ect.) Lyrics are usually based on what the idea of what the song is about. Typically the lyrics go with the theme of a song, for example if the songs title and backing track is upbeat, the lyrics possibly will be positive and upbeat as well.
Sample size
what is sample size?
: A sample size in psychology is selecting a certain number of participants to be able to include in a specific study.
Independent variable
What is an independent variable?
an independent variable is a variable that isn't changed by other variables.
Extraneous Variable
What is an Extraneous Variable?
An extraneous variable is a variable that can affect the outcome of investigation but you weren't typically investigating (can effect independent or dependent variable).
What is a dependent variable?
A dependent variable is a variable that is manipulated to be able to get results from the people participating.
Design types
Memory
memory is the way the mind is able to recall information around us such as numbers, dates, events etc
What is emotion?
Emotion is feelings you experience, this can depend on your mood, what you have experienced, hunger, tiredness etc.
Long term memory
Long term memory is when short term memory is stored for a long time and turns into long lasting memories.
Relating to the research question the larger amount of participants will show more accurate results on how the emotions effect the memory
If one group from the sample size gets shown a different sort of music from the other group then one group is obviously getting manipulated
Examples: gender, race, possibly age (in some circumstances it isn't)
dependent variable
Example: in this research question the dependent variable would be the different music showcasing different emotions and its effects.

encoding, storage, retrieval are the three steps of memory.
Encoding
: the learning of the information
Storage
: the storage of information and maintaining that information
Retrieval
: now that information has turned into memory, retrieval is the ability to access that information
Problems
if the sample size is too small then you may produce inconclusive but if the sample size is too big may present too much unneeded information.
Examples: Time of day research was done, situational issues, experiments enviroment
problems
The independent variable may not capture the important factors in the study
Problems
dependent variables can be influenced by factors beyond the independent variable
Lyrics
Objective Quantitative data
Objects or things that can be measured by the investigator themselves
Advantages
Easy to compare between groups, and easy to analyse statistically
Disadvantages
Limits depth for a participants response
Subjective Quantitative Data
feelings or thoughts being
measured as numbers by the investigator
Advantages
Even though you are asking questions on feelings and thoughts to collect that specific data it is also number based as well.
Disadvantages
Participants may give the answers that other people may want to here not what they truly feel
Experimental Design
A scientific experiment to be able to get results by participants
Advantages
The ability to be able to control the independent variable, which can help eliminate unwanted extraneous variables.
Disadvantages
Study's may not be generalized to the real world settings
Emotion
Examples: different examples of emotions may be sadness, happiness, anger, confused
Subjective Qualitative data
When the data is being shown through personal opinions or feelings.
Advantages
It allows the investigator to get a better insight into peoples personal feelings or opinions
Disadvantages
Data may be influenced by the researchers own interpretation of things
An example being an event or situation you remember from your childhood
