Audio & Video Devices
Audio
- used to translates audio information from the computer into sounds that people can understand

- used to entering full motion recording into a computer
Example: digital camera, webcam & video capture
Image Capturing Device
Digital Camera
- Images record digitally on a disk.
- Images can be downloaded to a computer.
Digital Video Camera
- Record motion digitally.
- Can take still images as well.

Printers
- Output device that produces text and graphics on paper.
- Result is hard copy, or printout.
- Portrait & landscape.
Dot-matrix Paper
- Impact printer that produces images when tiny wire pins strike ribbon.
- Forms characters by striking mechanism against inked ribbon that contacts paper.
Line Printer
- High-speed impact printer that prints entire line at a time.
- Speed measured in lines per minute (1pm).
- Band printer prints fully formed characters using hammer mechanism.
Ink-jet Printer
- A type of nonimpact printer that sprays tiny drops of liquid ink onto paper (forms characters & graphics without striking paper).
- Prints in black-and-white/color on a variety of paper types.
Laser Printer
- High speed, high quality nonimpact printer.
- Prints text and graphics in very high quality resolution, ranging from 600 to 2400 dpi.
- More cost than ink-jet printer, but more faster.
Thermal Printer
- Generates images by pushing electrically heated pins against heat-sensitive paper.
- Dye-sublimation printer (photo printer)
Mobile Printer
- Small, lightweight, battery-powered printer that allows mobile user to print from notebook computer, table PC or PDA while travelling.
Plotter Printer
- Sophisticated printer used to produce high quality drawings.
- Creates photo-realistic-quality color prints.
Label Printer
- Small printer that prints on adhesive-type material.
- Most also print bar codes.
- Postage printer that built in digital scale & prints postage stamps.
Display Devices
- Output device that visually coveys information.
- Monitor houses display device as separate peripheral.

- Less desk space than CRT monitor.
- Consume less than one-third the power.
