It is all about THE EFFECT the author tries to conveyYou also have to pay attention to the IMPRESSION the author gives you (SENSES or your mind)
- The description of a scene
- What can you hear, smell or taste and what is the effect of such reaction?
- What can you feel emotionally or physically?

Be a set of visual images; for instance, if someone is described as a sloth we envisage someone who is sleepy and slow moving, and so we think that the person being described is lazy.
Consist of other sensory impressions; for instance, if someone is described as a mouse we imagine a very quiet person, which may lead us to think that the person is shy or timid.
Consist of distinctive atmospheres/ emotions; for instance, if someone describes a party as a funeral some people would understand this to mean sombre and unamusing, which leads us to consider that the party described was not enjoyable.
