Wundt and Introspection

Introspection
He developed a research technique known as introspection which he described as the individual examining and reporting on their own mental processes.
Highly trained observers would study and report the content of their own thoughts, emotions and sensations when presented with stimuli and tasks such as a metronome. This was conducted in a carefully controlled environment under strictly controlled conditions, using the same stimuli every time and the same standalised instructions were issued to all participants.
Introspection led to identifying the structure of consciousness by breaking in up into the basic structures: thoughts, images and sensations. This marked the beginning of scientific psychology, separating it from it's broader philosophical roots.
