History

In 1960, after occupying Saigon, the French government repaired an abandoned temple on 5th Street into a church as a place of worship for French Catholics.

Then, due to the need to expand the stature, to build a church with European architecture of stature

showing the strength of the expedition army and the French culture that was very interested by the admirals

In August 1876, the governor of Cochinchina Duperré organized an architectural design competition for a new church

Architect J. Bourad with the design of the modified Roman architectural style mixed with Gothic features won

it was this talented engineer who won the bidding in the subsequent church building bidding.

In February 1959, the statue of Our Lady was placed in front of the church. From that event, the church was called Notre Dame Cathedral to this day.

the church is designed in the form of a Basilica with a long cross-shaped floor plan

including a large space in the middle, two wing corridors and a semicircular harem

The Roman architectural style has improved the exterior with a broken arch with Gothic characteristics

Inside, there is a modern steel arch structure supporting the whole building.
