What is it?
Story of the literature
literature, a body of written works. The name has traditionally been applied to those imaginative works of poetry and prose distinguished by the intentions of their authors and the perceived aesthetic excellence of their execution.
“Literature” comes from Latin, and it originally meant “the use of letters” or “writing.”
the earliest examples of written literature appear to have originated in ancient Mesopotamia. The Sumerian civilization first developed writing around 3400 B.C.
Early literature is derived from stories told in hunter-gatherer bands through oral tradition, including myth and folklore.
Types of literature
Literature is difficult to classify, since within the same text different forms of writing can be used and different themes can be discussed. Therefore, the most common way of grouping literary texts is based on the period or the current to which they belong.
