History
After 1975, the Hua family evacuated to France to live, and the building was taken over by the liberation army.
In 1987, the Ho Chi Minh City Fine Arts Museum was officially established in this very building.
In 1992, the Museum officially came into operation.
In 2012, the Museum was recognized as a city-level architectural and artistic monument.
Since then, the Museum has become a place to store and display many famous artworks, antiques, sculptures and paintings of great historical, cultural, as well as artistic value.
In 1934, the building was officially completed.
In 1929, the Uncle Fire family built a luxurious and classic Baroque style mansion, with a perfect combination of French and Chinese architecture according to the design of architect Rivera.
This palatial building formerly belonged to Uncle Fire and the Hua family with mysterious anecdotes that have existed for nearly 100 years in the heart of Saigon.
Architect
The entire mansion is divided into two horizontal rows and two vertical rows of houses, symmetrical to each other, creating the feeling of having a skylight in the middle of the building. The four main areas of the museum include: the main gate, the main staircase, the 1st floor terrace and the long cinematic corridors.
According to the original draft, the building has 100 doors. However, when reviewing the architectural plan, the governor-general ordered that one door be removed, and the main gate not opened, because this gate was larger than that of the Governor-General's Palace (now the Independence Palace).
Ho Chi Minh City Fine Arts Museum is about 3,514m2 wide and built in the famous French Baroque style in the late nineteenth – early twentieth centuries, harmoniously combining the beauty of European and Asian architecture, creating an extremely magnificent and magnificent work.
