- - - - big topic 2: vandalism laws and how they are related to art being created in a public space. these laws are kept in place to prevent vandalism, destruction of property. Also maintains peace in a public space, prevents actions that might offend different parties sharing the space.
        
        CONTEXT of the research: Singapore is a country where many different cultures and races exist together. Many rules are set in place to ensure there is no discourse between different beliefs, to maintain the peace and structure of the society. This law however, makes it that people are just simply not allowed to put anything on the walls without a permit. permit is often commissioned, and thus might take away the true views an artist has. A certain form of art emerges from this phenomenon, and only this genre of art is allowed on the streets of singapore.
- - - - is there much done for this topic? bring in an example from rscls. he is an artist with a permit to paint at areas of singapore where street art is encouraged. he paints something that is a recollection of the past, but is asked to remove it because someone found the subject described distasteful, and trying to reflect someone in a bad light.
        
        in a country like singapore, this is an issue because people are often encouraged to take a safer route in order to not face the consequences. singapore is small and thus easy for the police to track whoever was in charge of the work. not giving up on wanting the freedom to express is important for a country like singapore ( why is freedom of expression important? - readings)
