Case B
Overview:
Attending TAG group for children in care, run by MDT (art psychotherapists, counsellors, mental health social workers)
Aims to help children address emotional issues which may be confusing & distressing using the medium of art; to enable them to feel they can be seen, heard and understood, without judgement; to model secure attachments/consistent responses and be a secure base for the children
12yo male at risk of expulsion from school due to violent outbursts, regularly walking out of class, other times hiding and refusing to leave
Developed strong therapeutic alliance during mask project - both created multiple faces representing different sides of personality, enabling him to feel seen and understood.
Developed secure attachment (communication, seeking reassurance, consistent patterns of behaviour e.g. saying goodbye)
Noticed feelings of anxiety/unease/fear/unfair when preparing to end and handover to other AP. Did not want to re-trigger sene of abandonment, discourage protective engagement in TAG group, or impact sense of a "safe base"
Theories / Models:
Attachment theory (Bowlby) - disorganised attachment style (flipped between being antisocial/emotionally reactive/avoidance to private/distant/withdrawn)
CMRA Model of Termination (Saidon et al) - consolidate, maintain, resolve, accept)
