Repetition
Repeating a word/phrase for effect, either within a line or across a whole poem
Rhyme
When words have the same end sound
Rhythm
When words are arranged in a way that makes a pattern or beat
Rhyme scheme
a way of describing the pattern of end rhymes in a poem
Alliteration
When the first sounds in words repeat.
Consonance
When consonants repeat in the middle or end of words.
Onomatopoeia
When a word sounds like the sound it's describing - e.g. snap, crackle, pop, bang, boom
Language devices
Refers to the language used in a poem
Personification
Gives an object human characteristics

Comparing 2 different things not using the words 'like' or 'as'
