Biology {Water Pollution & Selective Breeding

Eutrophication

Deforestation

Sewage Problems

Leaching & Soil Erosion- root systems from trees decreases, destabalising soil as it is not holding soil in place, nutrients can be leached into water sources, topsoil will become unstable soil fertility is reduced, easily washed away by rain(soil erosion), could lead to flash flooding

Transpiration- less trees, less transmission of water from leaves during transpiration, less water condenses are water vapor into atmosphere, less rain, causes drought

Global-warming- this is because less trees, less photosynthesis, less CO2 being absorbed more trees being burned more CO2 let out to atmosphere, more GHG in atmosphere, more radiation absorbed by GHG, therefore heating atmosphere and Earth.

Reduce Biodiversity- this is because massive rainforests being taken down the species living there causes habitat destruction, have to migrate, become endangered, and are under the risk of extinction.

Selective Breeding

Animals

Plants

flavour

crop yield

tolerance to bad weather

resistant to diseases

large eggs

large milk yield, milk yield

dogs placid (friendly)

when fertilisers run off into water sources as they are soluble causing algal bloom because of the increased amount of nutrients. Algal bloom blocks sunlight to bottom of water sources organisms, stopping photosynthesis and therefore killing them, decomposers feeding off dead matter, doing aerobic respiration using up O2, O2 levels drop suffocating animals not enough O2 for aerobic respiration

sewage contains faeces, attracting bacteria that use it as food source, bacteria use up oxygen for aerobic respiration depleting the dissolved O2 levels in sewage water, leading to aquatic organisms dying due to lack of oxygen for respiration

sewage water can be treated of bacteria before released into water source

Uses- wood for timber, burning for fuel, clearing space for agriculture

The removal of trees from a habitat

Acid Rain

when sulfur impurities are burned in fuels release sulfur dioxide gas which dissolves into water droplets in clouds falling as acid rain.

from burning petrol in combustion engines like in cars in high temperature and pressure, nitrogen and oxygen react making nitrogen monoxide then dioxide it then reacts with water to form nitric acids to produce acid rain

Global Warming

Consequences: flash floods, climate change, migration, habitat destruction, mass extinction, droughts, food insecurity, increase poverty levels

Greenhouse Effect

sun releases short wave radiation, when it hits Earth some is reemmitted as long wave radiation some escapes to space and some is absorbed by GHG trapping heat in the earth's atmosphere

Increase in Methane- rice and cow farming
