Literacy Improvement Group - Early self-reflection - What's going on?
Sick of change that leads to nothing due to interference and forever changing priorities.
Causes staff to devalue the work we will do
Impacts on my own mentality - I find it ahrd to be enthusasitic
Lack of consistency
Change is never embedded
Staff 'change fatigue' - numerous groups each year that are never sustained or continued - staff struggle to invest in the work
How much control do we actually have?
What scope will we have?
Will recomendations be 'heard'?
Will staff get time to invest in the work? Or solely based on 'goodwill'?
The
ME
factor!
Right now, how much enthusiam am I bringing to the table?
Am I willing to invest in it?
Can I be positive?
What do I have control over?
Personal - Lack of time due to family and other commitments
Demotivated - ignored regarding literacy but we know it's a real issue that needs to be tackled - why aren't SLT taking it seriously?
Time - My Managerial time has been removed - 2nd year in a row.
National picture.
Impending strikes
Work to rule muted
Staff exhausted and feel undervalued
Uncertainty over SQA
School context
Impending inspection
Staff struggling with behaviour at the moment - exhausted
As union rep, I know they feel that SLT aren't listening to them - do they include me as an ELT member in that as well?
NO shared whole school vision - its out of date
THere is no whole school literacy plan - I've tried, no-one listens.
Quite a high staff turnover (compared to the usual)
'Group' early thoughts
Some don't want to be in the group
Demotivated
Trust issues - friction between teachers and 'promoted staff'
Seperating me as PT & Union Rep - An issue - Unique?
Many think the group is just a 'box ticking exercise'
