故事的结尾
evidence
the book ends with liang shanbo death from heartbreak. knowing that Zhu Yingtai would never be happy with her fiancé, she kills herself at Liang Shanbo’s grave. However, those who were watching saw two butterflies emerging from Liang Shanbo’s tomb.
After the prince got married to the princess the little mermaid sacrificed herself so the prince could live. However, she joined the Daughters of the Air and started on a journey to gain an immortal soul.
analysis
both stories have somewhat happy/bittersweet endings, which allude to the theme that love is boundless and even if they can't be together in the physical world, their is still hope their souls will be reuhnited (in a spiritual sense)
after the little mermaid dies, she separates from her love to find an immortal soul, while Zhu Yingtai and Liang Shanbo stay together. This contrast shows two opposing themes and endings. One, that you can find fulfillment within yourself/in one's own dreams and aspirations, and two, one can discover fulfillment and happiness with sharing love with another person/in shared lovethat another's love will give you happiness.
爱情观
evidence
the prince has to love the little mermaid more than his father and mother for her to live but didn't, both Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai killed themselves for each other, suggests that romantic love is the most intense and will take over one's life
the girls in both stories kill themselves because they can't be with their lovers. This showed the stereotype that women's lives revolved around men. (submissive)
