Generating electricity
Renewable resources
resources that can be replenished, they do not run out even though we are using them
Wind, caused by the movement of air and the wind turns a turbine which generates electricity
-
Geothermal, this is when hot water and steam from underground can be used to turn a turbine and create energy
Solar, an example of this is solar panels as energy is transferred from the sun's radiation which creates energy is solar cells.
Non-renewable resources
energy resources that cannot be replenished, eventually run out because we are using them
Fossil fuels, this is when coal, oil and gas are formed over a million years from dead organisms and this is burnt in power stations to boil water which then turns into steam and turns the turbines
Nuclear fuel, this is when uranium and plutonium is used and the energy from it is transferred to energy is the thermal store through nuclear reactions then this energy is transferred to water to boil it into steam which then turns a turbine
energy stores
kinetic energy store, the amount of kinetic energy depends on the speed of the object
gravitational potential energy store, the amount depends on the height of the object
thermal energy, the energy in this store depends on the temperature of the object
chemical energy store, the transfer of this energy store happens due to chemical reactions
elastic potential energy, the amount of energy depends on the compression or extension of the object
