Factors Affecting Urination - Coggle Diagram
Factors Affecting Urination
Developmental Considerations
Infants - can't concentrate urine until about 6 weeks
Factors necessary for toilet trainin
Preschoolers -teach to wipe front to back & handwashing
pregnancy - fetus compresses bladder >frequency
Elderly - harder for kidneys to concentrate urine> nocturia, decreased bladder tone >urgency and frequency, decreased bladder contractility > stasis and retention, mobility issues >urge incontinence, more meds that can affect urination
Fluid and Food
ETOH > diuretic effect
Foods high in water increase production
Some foods affect odor
foods high in sodium cause sodium and water reabsorption and retention>deceasing urine output
some fluids have diuretic effect
low Na diet decreases urine output
some foods affect color
Psychological Variables
some under stress void small amounts, more frequently
fear of germs (don't use public BR)
lack of privacy in hospital
Activity & Muscle Tone
Indwelling catheters lose bladder tone
Decreased muscle tone (childbearing, menopause, trauma) . stress incontinence
lack of activity>renal calculi and stasis
Disease Processes
Renal Failure - Acute or Chronic
Congenital Urinary tract abnormalities
Polycistic kidney ds
UTIs
Renal Calculi
HTN
DM
Gout
Connective Tissue Disorders
Medications
Nephrotoxic Drugs
Diuretics
Cholinergic mediations
Analgesics and Tranquilizers
Some meds affect color
